Nonpolar covalent bond
A bond where electronegativity between two atoms is equal, resulting in equal sharing of electrons.
Polar covalent bond
A bond involving unequal sharing of electrons between two atoms, where the atom with higher electronegativity draws the shared negative electrons closer to itself.
Hydrogen bond
An attraction that occurs between polar covalent molecules when a partially positive hydrogen atom is attracted to an extremely electronegative atom in a neighboring molecule.
Fluorine (F2)
An example molecule formed by a nonpolar covalent bond where electrons are shared equally between the two atoms.
Hydrogen Bonding Elements
The specific extremely electronegative elements that hydrogen must be covalently bonded to in order to form hydrogen bonds: Oxygen (O), Nitrogen (N), or Fluorine (F).
