Vocabulary practice flashcards covering key terms, categories, ecosystem diagrams, and species identifications from the ANIG 1624 Herbivore Game Species lecture notes.
ANIG 1624
The course module on Herbivore Game Species presented by Jamie Paulse and compiled by Francois Deacon and Nico Smit.
Primary Producers
Green plants that absorb sunlight to generate biomass through photosynthesis, forming the base level of ecological pyramids.
Primary Consumers
Herbivorous animals that feed directly on primary producers to obtain energy.
Secondary Consumers
Carnivores or omnivores that consume primary consumers in a food chain.
Decomposers/Detritivores
Organisms that break down dead organic material and waste, returning nutrients to the ecosystem while energy is lost as heat.
Large Herbivores (Not Antelopes)
A classification category of non-antelope game species that includes Elephant, White Rhino, Black Rhino, Hippo, Giraffe, Buffalo, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Plains Zebra, and Mountain Zebra.
