First and Last Word Capitalization Rule

FANBOYS Conjunctions in Titles

Coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) that are NOT capitalized when they occur as in-between words in titles.

Prepositions in Titles

Words such as of, in, on, at, to, for, by, and with that are NOT capitalized when they occur as in-between words in titles.

Articles in Titles

The words a, an, and the, which are NOT capitalized when they appear as in-between words in titles.

Short-Form Works

Works including short stories, poems, journal and magazine articles, songs, and fairy tales, whose titles go in quotation marks.

Long-Form Works

Works including books, plays, newspapers, movies, TV shows, and operas, whose titles are italicized.

The title formatting requirement for short stories, which dictates placing the title in quotation marks.

Poems Formatting
