DBPR Organization
Multiple divisions for each different profession, relating to health, safety, or the well-being of the public. All divisions are under the direct supervision of the secretary of the department of business and professional regulation. No set term limit. Appointed by the governor of Florida and subject confirmation by Senate.
Division of Real Estate
Mission is to protect the public by regulation of real estate and appraisal licenses the education and compliance. Handles administrative and routine tasks for FREC such as recordkeeping
Hired to support FREC and both FREC and DRE offices are in Orlando
The secretary of the DBPR appoints the Director of the DRE, but the decision has to be approved by a majority vote of the FREC
Division of Professions
Handles training and testing across all professions for the DBPR. Also is charged withholding onto licensed applicants, confidential test data for at least two years.
Division of service operations
Customer contact center is charged with handling inquiries from the general public or license holders.
The central intake units were licensed applications and fees are collected for licenses regulated by the DBPR. They also send out license renewal notice notices an issue the licenses.
Division of Florida condominiums, timeshares, and mobile homes
Regulates its namesake involves complaint, resolution, mediation, arbitration, education, disclosures, election, disputes for homeowners, associations, and more
Division of regulation
Enforcement. It’s the authority, ensuring that regulated businesses and professions are following the legislature’s laws, standards, and rules.
Department powers, and duties
approve license applications
Renew licenses once they receive the app, fee, and proof of completion of CE requirements
Adopt rules and procedure for license renewals every four years
Appoint the executive director of each board
Disclose licensee info to the dept of revenue
Mail renewal and reversion notices (60 days prior to the end of the license period)
Inspect any licensed broker or brokerage office for violations of Chapter
Provide injunctive relief for violations
Send cease and desist orders to anyone practicing without the proper license
Issue citations to wrongdoers who have been licensed by the DBPR
Investigate complaints involving licensees
Issue subpoenas related to their investigations
