Brain Stem
It connects the brain to spinal cord. It is responsible for breathing. heart-rate, and sleep
Medulla
It controls basic functions like breathing, heart rate and beat
Pons
Relays motor and sensory information, coordinates voluntary movement, balance, and regulating sleep
Reticular formation
Is essential for arousal (sleeping, walking, pain perception)
Cerebellum
Is responsible for non verbal learning, balance, movement, and fine motor controls, movement/motor coordination
Thalamus
Takes in sensory information. (touch, hearing, taste, seeing except smell)
Amygdala
Memory consolidation and emotion (fear and pleasure)
hippocampus
Consolidates and encodes memory and learning
Hypothalamus
Keeps body steady. Body temp, sleep, and hunger
Cerebral Cortex
Is responsible for high-level functioning like conscious thinking/thought, memory, language, and motor controls.
Frontal lobes
Responsible for speaking, planning, judging, abstract thinking, and personality aspects
Parental lobes
Responsible for sense of touch and body position , processing sensory information from skin and muscles
Occipital Lobes
Receive information related to sight
Temporal Lobes
Process sound and speech, responsible for language comprehension and memory (especially declarative memory)
Motor Cortex
Plans and executes voluntary movements (muscle movements and contractions)
Sensory cortex
Receives and processes incoming sensations to create a fuller understanding of objects and the environment
Broca’s Area
Speech and language comprehension
Wernicke’s Area
Processes auditory and converts them into meaningful language, helping us understand spoken language
Corpus Collosum
Consists of white matter tracts that connects the left and right hemisphere
