Spanish Accent Rules and Vocabulary

Agudas

Words with stress on the last syllable that receive an accent mark if they end in a vowel, N, or S.

Llanas/graves

Words with stress on the second-to-last syllable that receive an accent mark if they DO NOT end in a vowel, N, or S.

Esdrujulas

Words with stress on the third-to-last syllable; they always automatically receive accent marks.

Examples of Agudas

Canción, estudie, francés, también.

Examples of Lanas/graves

lápiz, fácil, árbol.

Examples of Esdrujulas

médico, pájaro, máquina, telefone.
