Working Drawing
A drawing that gives full and complete information essential to making or assembling an object, including size, shape, material, finish, and assembly instructions.
Detail Drawing
A description of a single part that specifies its size, shape, material, and manufacturing methods using lines, notes, and symbols.

Assembly Drawing
A description of an object composed of two or more parts, showing general size and shape while defining the relationship between the various parts.

Installation Drawing
A drawing containing all necessary information for a part or assembly in its final position in an airplane, showing location dimensions relative to other parts.

Dimension Line
A light solid line broken near the center where a measurement numeral in inches is placed, finished with arrowheads at the ends pointing to measurement points.
Aircraft Plant Reading Method
A dimensioning convention where all dimensions and lettering are placed on the drawing so that they read from left to right when the title block is in the lower right-hand corner.

Angle Dimensioning
A method of indicating the angle formed by two intersecting lines by showing the degrees of the angle placed within an arc.

Circular Part Dimensioning
A method of specifying dimensions for circular parts in terms of diameter, marked with the letter D or Dia. following the dimension.

Arc Dimensioning
A method of indicating the dimension of an arc in terms of its radius, marked with the letter R following the dimension and an arrowhead placed on the end away from the center.

Parallel Dimensioning
An arrangement of parallel dimensions where the longest dimension is farthest from the outline of the object and the shortest dimension is closest.

Sectional Drawing
A drawing method that describes the interior construction of complex objects using solid lines as if the object were cut open, avoiding clear-cut limitations of dotted lines.
Crosshatching
A series of closely spaced light solid lines used to shade a newly exposed surface in a sectional view.
Full Section
A sectional view where the cutting plane extends entirely through the object to reveal full interior construction details.

Half Section
A sectional view displaying half of the object as a cut-away section and the other half as an exterior view.

Revolved Section
A section drawn directly upon the regular view to show the exact cross-sectional shape of an object at a specific point.

Reference Section (Labeled Section)
A sectional view placed at a convenient spot on the drawing sheet away from the main view and labeled to correspond to a specific cutting plane line.

Partial Section
A section drawn directly on a specific portion of the object to show construction details without making a complete sectional view.
