Is there a patio or cafeteria? Have you seen tacos, burritos, or bananas on the lunch menu? You may have studied mesas or tornados, condores or coyotes in science class. All of these words are of spanish origin. Many teens in the US dance to rhythms like salsa, merengue, or cumbia. Perhaps you have taken a siesta or gone to a zumba class.

55 years before the Pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower, the Spanish city of san agustin was flourishing in what is now Florida. The iconic cowboy tradition in the American Southwest traces its roots back to mexican ranchos and spain. Spanish language is influenced in many geographical names like Los Angeles, Monterey, and Grand Canyon. Currently in the US, there are about 1 in every 4 public school students who are Hispanic, 40 mill speak spanish everydyay. Major cities off spanish language newspapers, television, and radio stations. Bilingual signs are seen across public transportaiton., doctor’s offices, grocery stores, and voting ballots.

In many schools in spanish-speaking countries, students dont attend class all day; schools offer morning and an afternoon shift to meet the large demand for education. Also, students start learning a second language in elementary school and most students choose english. Before lunch they typically educasion fisica. Futbol is the most popular sport in gym class. In middle and high schools you might find fewer electives and would follow a demanding curriculum like science, math, comp sci, and maybe history and literature. There would be fewer school sponsored extracurriclar activities like sports and clubs.
