έπειδή δέ μοι παιδίον γίνεται

But when a baby was born to me,

έπίστευον ήδη και πάντα τά έμαυτοϋ εκείνη παρέδωκα

I now trusted her and handed over all my affairs to her,

ηγούμενος ταύτην οικειότητα μεγίστην είναι

thinking this to be the greatest intimacy;

έν μέν ούν τώ πρώτω χρόνω, ώ Αθηναϊοι, πασών ήν βελτίστη·
