glucose has 6 carbons. 2 ATP molecules are hydrolysed to release the phosphate group and one group is added on each end of glucose phosphate

what happens during the second stage of glycolysis?

the energy that was locked up in the bond within ATP is now transferred to the new molecule, glucose phosphate. glucose phosphate is a high energy molecule and highly reactive, which splits into two triose phosphates

what happens during the third stage of glycolysis?

both of those triose phosphate molecules are oxidised. can tell they’re oxidised as the coenzyme, NAD, is picking up a hydrogen from the triose phosphate. so the NAD is converted to NADH. NAD is reduced while the triose phosphate is oxidised. also released two molecules of ATP
