The Cell Theory
All living things are made of cells. Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in all living things. New cells are produced from existing things
Bacteria
Cells without a nucleus.
Eubacteria
Cells without a nucleus that resemble eukaryotes
Eukaryotic kingdoms
Animals, plants, fungus, and protists
Prokaryotes
NO NUCLEUS. 2 major categories are bacteria and eubacteria
Eukaryotes
Have a nucleus and internal membranes. Can be bacteria and eubacteria
Cell Membrane
a thin flexible barrier around the cell
Cytoplasm
the area outside the nucleus, but inside the cell membrane
Cell Wall
provides support and protection
Ribosomes
Produce proteins from codes from the nucleus
Nucleus
found in only Eukaryote cells only. Contains info of DNA
Chromatin
Instructions for the cell (DNA)
nucleolus
produces ribosomes
Nuclear envelope
membrane surrounding the nucleus
Cytoskeleton
A network of proteins that help the cell maintain its shape, helps with the movement of materials and organelles throughout the cell.
RoughER
covered in ribosomes which makes it looks rough.
SmoothER
no ribosomes
Golgi apparatus
packages, sorts and ships materials throughout the cell
Lyosomes
sacs filled with enzymes that break down food particles and old organelles
Vacuoles
Store water and food and help support structures (plants)
