Solid form
Known as blunt cut, one-length hair cut or a bob
Shape: Rectangular straight
Echoes curves of head near the top
Weight build up is at the perimeter
Shape: rectangular added texture
Expands shape
Texture
Inactivated with smooth, unbroken lines on the surface
Added texture causes the solid form to appear unbroken and is a result of the curl
pattern, not the sculpted form
Structure
Lengths progress from shorter at the exterior to longer in the interior. Weight is created at the perimeter form line in natural fall. Color coded blue
Solid form sculpting procedures: section
Section hair for control
Section hair between design line changes
Solid form sculpting procedures: head position
Generally upright
Can be tilted forward when refining nape hairline
Solid form sculpting procedures: part
Parallel to the design line
Natural distribution
Pay particular attention to the area above the crest
Minimal tension
Hair falls naturally over the curve of the head
Project: natural fall
Neither lifted away from scalp nor moved toward it
0 degrees
Position hair flat against head
Used to create underbeveled effect
Finger/shear position
Fingers and shears are positioned parallel to the part and the desired form line
Hair can be controlled with fingers a comb or the hand
Sculpting hand may be turned with Palm up or down depending on
1 level of comfort
2 hair length
3 line being sculpted
4 area of head being sculpted
Design line
A stationary line is used to sculpt solid forms
Establishes the perimeter form line
Tension
Whether sculpting on straight or curly hair, too much tension will result in a graduated
appearance
Variations in the hairline and the protrusion of the ears can cause uneven length
Comb control
Least amount of tension
Comb parallel to design line
Freeform
Another way to avoid tension when sculpting solid forms
Overlapping technique
Sculpt each section slightly longer as you work up the head and refine form line with tips
of shears
Dry sculpting
Sculpt hair after it has been air formed straight which allows the shape or form to be
observed as it is being sculpted
Longer lengths
Turn clients head and sculpt the sides either in front or in back of the shoulders
To create a horizontal line with a slight increase toward the sides, shift the hair toward the back
