Aims

Protection of overall health of animal’s populations by reducing or eliminating the presence of disease-causing agents, vectors, and reservoirs.

Used as prevention, eradication, and control.

Principles

• Objectives are general or specific against aetiological agent

• As prevention it should be carried out regularly and systemically in all facilities

• Intra-focal sanitation to destroy all sources of infection, vectors, reservoirs

• Sanitation at place of epizootiological situation: wherever necessary

• Continuous monitoring of epizootiological situation for adaptation

Methods

• Disposal of animals during outbreaks: killing of infected animals directly on farm

• Disinfection: destruction of microbes immediately after slaughter

  • Approved disinfectants are sodium hydroxide, chloramine B, chlorinated lime, formalin

• Final cleaning and disinfection

  1. Removal of dirt from surface w/ degreasing agent

  2. Disinfection of surface

  3. 7 days

  4. Washing w/ degreasing agent again

  5. Beddings are disinfected

  6. Sludge disinfection

• Disinfestation: destruction of insects and rodents

  • Mechanical (traps, hunting), physical (flooding dens), chemical, biological (natural enemies, habitats destruction)
