steps of protein synthesis

There are four steps to protein synthesis. THis process occurs when transcription occurs in the nucleus and a copy is made of a specific gene on one dna molecule. This copy is a nucleic acid called pre-messenger mRNA. mRNA processing still occurs in the nucleus and it fine tunes and edits the prmRNA to become mature mRNA which can then leave the nucleus. Translation happens at a ribosome where the mature mRNA is read as instructions for a building protein. Amino acids are assembled in a specific sequence forming the primary structure of a new protein . Post -translational modification happens in the lumen of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, where some proteins need additional chemical modifications of assembly into a quaternary structure before they are ready to do their work. When the cell needs more proteins, transcription begins again with a specific gene on dna, repeating the process of protein synthesis.
