Mental disorder
An illness of the mind that can affect thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, preventing a person from leading a happy, healthy life.
Stigma
A mark of shame or disapproval that results in an individual being shunned or rejected by others.
Anxiety disorders
The most common type of mental disorder characterized by real or imagined fears that are difficult to control.
Phobias
Strong irrational fears of something specific.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
A disorder characterized by persistent fears or urges (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors (compulsions).
Panic disorder
A disorder characterized by attacks of sudden unexplained terrors, accompanied by physical symptoms.
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
A condition that occurs after trauma, causing flashbacks, nightmares, and emotional numbness.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
A disorder characterized by excessive worries and tenseness for no reason; individuals often startle easily.
Impulse control disorders
Conditions where individuals cannot control the urge to engage in harmful behaviors.
Kleptomania
An impulse control disorder involving an uncontrollable urge to steal.
Self-harm
The act of deliberately injuring oneself, such as through cutting, burning, or pulling out hair.
Pyromania
An impulse control disorder characterized by setting fires to feel pleasure or release tension.
Excessive (or compulsive) gambling
The continuation of gambling despite heavy losses, even when the individual wishes to stop.
Compulsive shopping
The uncontrollable act of spending money on items that are unaffordable or unnecessary.
Eating disorders
Disorders where individuals perceive societal pressure for a perfect body, leading to unhealthy eating habits.
Anorexia nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by self-starvation.
Bulimia nervosa
An eating disorder involving cycles of binge eating followed by purging.
Binge eating
Consuming large amounts of food in a short period, often associated with feelings of loss of control.
Mood disorders
Mental health disorders characterized by extreme emotional fluctuations.
Depression
A mood disorder marked by persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest.
Bipolar disorder
A disorder characterized by extreme changes in mood, energy level, and behavior.
Conduct disorder
A mental health disorder involving engaging in destructive behaviors, such as stealing, lying, or violence.
Personality disorders
