Computer Network
A group of computers and devices connected to each other to communicate and share resources.
Communication Links
Paths that carry data, such as wires or wireless signals, used in a computer network.
Resource Sharing
The ability to share devices like printers and software among connected computers.
Remote Access
Accessing files and services from a different location, not just from one fixed place.
Local Area Network (LAN)
Connects computers within a small area like a home, office, or classroom.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
Connects multiple LANs across a city or large area, larger than a LAN but smaller than a WAN.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
Connects networks across very large distances like cities, countries, or continents.
Point-to-Point Network
A network with a direct link between exactly two devices.
Broadcast Network
A type of network where all devices share one common channel for sending data.
Physical Topology
The actual physical layout of a network, showing where cables and devices are placed.
Logical Topology
How data travels inside the network, describing the path it takes from one device to another.
Star Topology
A topology where every computer connects to one central device, like a switch.
Bus Topology
A topology where all computers connect to a single backbone cable.
Ring Topology
A topology where each computer connects to two other computers, forming a closed loop.
Mesh Topology
A topology where each device connects directly to one or more other devices.
Hybrid Topology
A mix of two or more different topologies combined to utilize their strengths.
