Energy
The ability to do work.
Energy Transformation
A change from one form of energy to another.
Six Forms of Energy
Chemical, electrical, thermal, mechanical, gravitational, and nuclear.
Lighting a Match Sequence
Mechanical energy produces friction to create thermal energy, which releases chemical energy from coatings, transforming into electromagnetic energy (light) and thermal energy (heat).
Starting a Car Engine Sequence
Electrical energy produces electromagnetic energy (spark) and thermal energy, which transforms chemical energy in fuel into mechanical energy (turning wheels) and thermal energy (exhaust gases).
Solar Cells
Nonconventional energy devices that convert radiant energy into electrical energy.
Windmills
Devices on a farm that convert wind energy into mechanical energy or electrical energy.
Elevated Water Behind a Dam
Water containing potential energy that converts to kinetic energy as it falls, rotating a turbine of a generator to produce electrical energy.
