Expendable Mold
Single-use molds that can be made from materials like sand, plaster, ceramics, or other refractories with bonds.
Green-Sand Casting
The most widely used and least expensive casting process with low tooling costs.
Sodium Silicate - CO2 Molding
A molding process that uses sodium silicate to strengthen molds and cores, providing high dimensional accuracy.
Shell-Mold Casting
A process using resin-coated sand on a heated pattern to create high-dimensionally accurate molds.
Investment Casting
A process where a refractory slurry is formed around a pattern, which is then melted out, leaving a mold for metal casting.
Lost-Foam Casting
A casting process where a foam pattern is vaporized by molten metal, resulting in a metal duplicate of the foam.
Chaplets
Small metal supports placed between cores and mold cavity surfaces that become integral to the final casting.
Dimensional Accuracy
The precision of the cast parts in terms of their dimensions.
Permeability
The property of a core to allow gases to pass through during the casting process.
Surface Finish
The texture and quality of the surface of the cast part.
