Latitude
Measures north and south on the Earth.
Longitude
Measures east and west on the Earth.
Equator
The line of 0 degrees latitude, dividing the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Poles
The points at 90 degrees north (North Pole) and 90 degrees south (South Pole) latitude.
Parallels
Another term for lines of latitude that never cross each other.
Prime Meridian
The line of 0 degrees longitude, located in Greenwich, England.
International Dateline
The line around the Earth at which the date changes, located near the 180 degrees longitude.
Time Zones
Regions of the Earth that have the same standard time, typically each covering 15 degrees of longitude.
Circumference
The distance around the Earth, which longitude lines follow at all points.
45th Parallel
The latitude that is halfway between the equator and the North Pole.
