associated hair sweat glands nails

FUNCTION - ACTS AS A PROTECTIVE BARRIER , helps REGULATE BODY TEMPERATURE, DETECTS EXTERNAL STIMULIS

2
New cards

SKELETAL SYSTEM

BONES CARTILIGE LIGAMENTS AND BONE MARROW

BONE MARROW RESPONSIBLE FOR PRODUCING BLOOD CELLS

FUNCTIONS :

BONES PROVIDE STRUCTURAL SUPPORT , STORES CALCIUM and MINERALS important for BONE GROWTH, PRODUCES BLOOD CELLS

example : carple bones, humerus,

3
New cards

Muscular system

has to do with skeletal muscles / TENDONDS

examples : glutes lattisimus dorsi muscles , huge back muscle

FUNCTIONS

REGULATE TEMPERATURE , GENERATES HEAT, PROVIDES MOVMENT through CONTRACTIONS

4
New cards

Nervous system

very big systtem

consists of CNS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

PNS PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

all of the above consists of huge organs such as the BRAIN and SPINAL CORD

occasionally some SENSE organs such as your eyes

FUNCTION of the NERVOUS SYSTEM

1) detect stimuli

Respond to stimuli

interpret whats going on

sends up electrical impulses

example: touch hot stove, remove immediately

5
New cards

Endocrine System

Regulates HORMONES

ORGANS located in the endocrine system INCLUDE THE

PITUATARY GLAND , Thyroid (Controls METABOLISM)

, ADRENAL GLANDS which SECRETES NOREPINEPHRINE and EPINEPHRINE (which is the flight or fight response)

PANCREAS Regulates Sugar , insulin,

GONADS - which refer to your refers to your REPRODUCTIVE OVARIES and TESTIES

[ FUNCTIONS OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM ]

Controls or Regulates HORMONES

Controls / functions METABOLLIC ACTIVITY

Controls SEXUAL REPRODUCTION

Controls SLEEP CYCLE

eating, thirst, hunger

6
New cards

Cardiovascular System

Heart, blood, blood vessels, Arteries, veins, capillaries

FUNCTIONS

is to CIRCULATE BLOOD, PUMP Blood, RELEASE WASTE, and also helps REGULATE BODY TEMPEERATURE

COLD, HEART RATE DECREASES and will RESERVE BLOOD during case of hyperthermia to try and maintain body temp

7
New cards

Lymphatic System

Consists of the Spleen, thymus, lymphatetic vessels, lymph nodes, tonsils,

ALL help FIGHT INFECTION, also REGULATE FLUID IN the Blood

8
New cards

Special Senses

9
New cards

Respiratory - CRUCIAL

Deals with breathing capacity

Nasal passage, sinuses, larynx, trachea, bronchis (located towards the end of the trachea) , lungs, and alveoli (STRUCTURE responsible for GAS EXCHANGE - dropping of co2 and picking up o2)

[ FUNCTIONS ] of the RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

gas exchange (removes co2 picks up o2), provides oxygen throughout the body, also produces sound for COMMunication

larynx = voice box

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

- HUGE Organ System

Starts from the mouth all the way to technically your butt

teeth, tongue, esophagus (where food goes down or food travels from your esophagus INTO YOUR STOMACH ) , stomach (responsible for digestion through enzymes, SI small intestine, to LI large intestines break down of food ABSORPTION OF VITAMINS

from LI eventually discreted out OTHER organs with dif roles and stuff

FUNCTIONS

Responsible for BREAKING DOWN AND ABSORBING NUTRIENTS

  • DIGEST FOOD

  • ABSORB NUTTIENTS

  • EXCRETE WASTE

  • STORE FAT

  • STORE ENERGY

11
New cards

Urinary system

Consists of Kidney (s)

, Ureter (pee out of) , bladder (stores urine), Urethra

[ FUNCTION ] : Excretes out things that THE BODY DOES NOT NEED - EXCRETES WASTE

, controls WATER BALANCE in body ,

regulates PH

more info:

Bladder can only hold certain amount of fluid because there is a SPHINCTER - a muscle that sits underneath the Bladder (which is a structure) - pressure placed on the Sphincter causes the muscle to open up and release urine

12
New cards

Male Reproductive system

Major organs

Testis
Seminal Vesicles

Penis

Scrotum

[ FUNCTIONS ]

  • Sperms, hormones, reproduction

13
New cards

Female Reproductive System

Ovaries , vagina = BIRTHING CANAL, mammary glands (which SECRETE MILK) , Uterus

[ FUNCTIONS ]

to

  • Produce Sex Cells OOCYTES, hormones, produces milk, sexual reproduction
