What is the assumed material behaviour for using Hooke’s Law?
-All materials are homogeneous
-All materials are isotropic
-A linear and plastic relationship is assumed between stress and strain
What is the assumed loading conditions for using Hooke’s Law?
-All deformations are quasi-static (extremely slow)
-Material time dependency is negligible
-All temperatures are constant
-All strains are small (<5%)
What is the meaning of ‘All materials are homogeneous’?
-No changes in the material density throughout therefore no weak or hard spots
-If you apply the same stretch or force to the material at any point it will deform the exact same way
What is the meaning of ‘All materials are isotropic?
-The material has identical mechanical properties in every direction
-3 examples are stiffness, youngs modulus and poissons ratio
What is the meaning of ‘The material’s time dependency is negligible’?
-The material responds to stress instantly
-Its behaviour does not change depending on how long the load is applied for or how fast its applied
