What is an Absoloute Monarch?
A king or queen who has complete control over a country without any checks on their power.
What is a Bolshevik?
A member of the Russian socialist group led by Lenin that wanted to overthrow the government and create a communist state.
What is April Theses?
A set of ideas written by Lenin in 1917 calling for the overthrow of the Russian government and promising people ‘peace, land and bread’.
What is a Kulak?
Wealthier peasants in Russia who owned land often blamed for the country’s problems during the Soviet rule.
What is the NEP?
A policy introduced by Lenin in 1921 that allowed some private businesses and small farms to help rebuild Russia’s economy.
What is the Left Wing?
A political view that supports social equality, government involvement in the economy, and changes to improve lives of ordinary people.
What is the Right wing?
A political view that supports traditional values, limited government, and free-market capitalism.
What is Democracy?
A system of government where people vote to choose their leaders and have the freedom to express their opinions.
What is Dictatorship?
A government where one person or a small group has total control and makes all decisions without the people’s input.
Who is Leon Trotsky?
A leading figure in the 1917 Russian Revolution. He helped organise the Red Army and later opposed Joseph Stalin. Trotsky was exiled from the Soviet Union and assassinated in Mexico in 1940.
