Location
Deep in skin- mostly found on fingers and soles of the toes
Structure
Single sensory neurone in centre of lamellae- stretch- mediated sodium channels
Sodium channels function
When under pressure, channels are closed-under pressure they open, causing sodium ions to flow into cell
What happens when the sodium ions flow into cell?
Positive charge changes membrane potential- depolarisation- created generator potential leading to an action potential in the axon
