1/10
Practice vocabulary flashcards covering plant anatomical structures, photosynthesis, and reproductive processes from SOL 4.2.
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants produce their own food (sugar) using chlorophyll, carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight, while releasing oxygen as a byproduct.
Chlorophyll
The green pigment found in leaves that enables plants to trap energy from sunlight to produce food.
Leaves
The anatomical structures that serve as the primary food-producing parts and primary sites for photosynthesis in green plants.
Roots
Anatomical plant structures that anchor the plant and take in water and nutrients from the soil.
Stems
Plant structures that provide support and allow the movement of water and nutrients throughout the plant.
Flowers
The reproductive structures of flowering plants.
Seeds
Structures formed during the reproductive process of flowering plants with which most plants reproduce.
Pollination
The process by which pollen is transferred from the stamen to the pistil by wind, water, or animals.
Stamen
The male reproductive structure of a flower where pollen is made.
Pistil
The female reproductive structure of a flower where pollen lands on the stigma.
Petal
The colorful part of a flower that helps attract insects and other pollinators.
