Oxidation
The process involving the loss of electrons where the oxidation number increases (Charge goes UP).
Reduction
The process involving the gain of electrons where the oxidation number decreases (Charge goes DOWN).
Anode
The electrode where oxidation occurs, denoted by a negative sign (-) in the notes.
Cathode
The electrode where reduction occurs, denoted by a positive sign (+) in the notes.
Effect of Molarity on Reaction Rate
Increasing the molarity (concentration) of an acid makes a reaction faster because there are more particles, providing more chances for them to collide.
