Correlational method

  • Correlation expresses a relationship between two variables.

  • Does not prove causation.

  • Have to do an experiment to find cause and effect

  • Often there is a 3rd factor that is a cause

What are the types of correlations?

Positive Correlation:

The variable go in the same direction

Negatve Correlation or inverse relationship:

The variables go in different directions

Correlation Coefficient

  • A number that measures the strenght of a relationship.

    • Range is from -1 to +1

    • The relationship gets weaker the closer you get to zero.
