APGAR Scores
- Assessments at 1 minute and 5 minutes after birth
- Assessing appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration (8-10 ideal)
Peripheral IV
- For fluids and medications
Peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC)
- For long-term IV medications
Arterial line
- For monitoring blood pressure and pulse
- Can be used for blood draws to assess blood gas levels
Central venous catheter (CVC)
- < 1 month use for medication, monitoring vital signs, or dialysis
- Long term meds
Tunneled, cuffed central venous catheter (Broviac)
- Long term CVC for chemotherapy or parenteral nutrition
Implanted central venous catheter or port
- Long term CVC for chemotherapy, long term anti-biotics, or blood draws
Nasogastric tube
- Temporary nutrition or removal of stomach acid
Gastric tube
- Long term nutrition or medication
Jejunal tube
- Long term nutrition or medication if G tube is not tolerated

Nasal cannula
- Administers oxygen
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP)

- Used with ventilator
Tracheostomy
- For prolonged ventilator use
Chest tube
- Drain fluid or air due to hemothorax or pneumothorax
Jackson Pratt drain
- Drain fluid
Ventriculostomy
- Drain excess cerebrospinal fluid
Dialysis
- To remove waste products
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
- To support heart and lungs when they cannot function on their own
