Resume Parsing: computer program looks for keywords to determine if the candidate has the correct mix of skills for the position
Disparate impact: unintended discrimination against a protected group as a whole through the use of a particular requirement
Can occur in interview & through all aspects of employee’s job (pay raises, promotions, transfers)
Ex: being able to lift 50lbs can be a disparate impact to women unless the job requires this ability.
If organization can prove it is necessary for safety, it may not be discrimination
Disparate treatment:
Intentional discrimination more than unintentional
Ex: not interview a candidate because of one’s perception about the candidates age, race, or gender.

Cost effective, as opposed to traditional recruitment strategy
Can improve morale
Knowing the past performance of the candidate can assist in knowing if they meet criteria
Disadvantages
Can produce “inbreeding”, which may reduce diversity & different perspectives
May cause political infighting between people to obtain the promotions
Can create bad feelings if an internal candidate applies for a job & doesn’t get it
