Thirteen Colonies Governments

Proprietary Colonies:

• Granted by the Crown to be owned by a person or family to govern as they wanted
• Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania
• They were Given more liberties than other colonies because the proprietor could make their own laws and assign officials

Chartered Colonies:

• Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island
• Self governed
• Granted to the colonists, and charters between the British king and American Colonists as written Contracts

Joint Stock Companies

Royal Colonies:

• Main function to benefit the crown
• Rules By King
• NY, VA, Carolinas, Georgia, New Hampshire, NJ
