THEORY OF PLANNED BEHAVIOUR

The TBP model of behaviour change developed by Azjen (1985).
This is when people follow through with what they intend to do and it looks at personal beliefs about the behaviour and what others think.

There are 3 concepts:
- 1.Behavioural Attitude
- 2.Subjective norms
- 3.Perceived Behavioral control
1. The extent to which an individual approves or disapproves of the behaviour and considers the outcomes.
2. Person beliefs about what others think of them and their behavior.
3. Person’s belief on how easy or difficult it is to carry out a behaviour.
- It increases when an individual has resources
- They may be influenced by past outcomes - if they’ve failed before, they'll think they'll fail again.
Examples -
Personal attitude:
- smoking is relaxing, smoking costs a lot, smoking is bad for my health
Subjective norms:
- my colleagues smoke, my girlfriend doesn’t approve of smoking
Perceived Behavioural Control:
- I know I could stop if I have a bit of help, I can rely on my girlfriend to help
The intention will lead to the behaviour outcome!
