Landscapes
General landscapes
Part of the earth's surface
Variety of geographical features
Divided into two main categories: natural and human - DON'T say manmade
Human landscapes can also be known as cultural or built landscapes.
Different types of landscapes
Mountain
Formed by tectonic plates pushing against each other
Land is pushed up vertically
Over time forms mountains
Human
Created by humans - cities and farms
Infrastructures such as buildings, roads, transport, energy, sewage and telecommunication systems
Result in the damage of natural landscapes
Can incorporate geographical features like harbours, rivers and mountains
Karst
Formed when dissolvable bedrock (rock below the surface of the land) is worn away
Stalactite hangs down, like tights
Stalagmite goes up, like a mite? lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllidk
Extremely unstable areas
Sinkholes are formed when rock beneath the earth's surface has eroded away
Coastal
Where land mass meets the sea
Shaped by the natural forces of waves and wind
Forces erode or construct landscapes
Constantly changing its shape
Desert
An arid area is defined as an area of land that receives no more than 250 ml of water each year.
Semi-arid is defined as an area that gets 250-500ml
All deserts cover about 1/3 of the earth's surface
Two types of deserts, hot and cold
Hot located across the tropics
Cold near the Arctic
Riverine
Natural movement of a water system
Includes an ecosystem (all things including plants and animals)
Excellent for agricultural uses as the land is rich and fertile
