3 main types of industry:

Primary OR Extractive – taking raw materials out of the environment

Example:  forestry, fur, fishing, oil/fossil fuels, mining, agriculture

Secondary OR Manufacturing – making products from raw materials

Example:  clothing – cloth production, construction, steel making, auto manufacturing

Tertiary OR Service – provides assistance to industries and people

Examples: teaching, government jobs, barber, store, mechanic, police, doctor

(Quaternary – research and development (technological & medical development))
