• many powers maintained colonial holdings, and some even gained them

• turkey did emerge though!

• colonial territories often switched hands between powerse however

• paris peace conference wanted to dismantle ottoman and german empires and distribute the colonies they ahd among the allies

• woodrow wilson insisted that self-determination was important, but no one listened

• compromise was mandate system in mandate system

• middle eastern territoires were mandates administered by league of nations

  • helped determine developemtna dn population levels and how much rule they should endure

  • they were all treated like colonies though ☹
