Otter’s Ransom

Summary

  • three gods, Loki, Odin, and Honir all take a journey into Midgard during the winter season

  • Loki kills an otter for food

  • the three gods find shelter at Hreidmar’s farm. They promise that they have food for everyone living there

  • the gods don’t know that the food they have for them is their family member disguised as an otter to catch fish

  • Hreidmar and his sons plot to kill the gods for arming their friend until Odin springs the idea of ransom. Hreidmar agrees and demands to fill the freshly shaven otter’s skin with red golf.

  • Loki decides to go on this journey where he navigates to the hall on the sea bed to retrieve Aegir and Ran’s net. He leaves this place filled with twisting mazes to find a cavern where he uses a net. Loki demands the dwarf that sprung out of a pike (fish) to give him all that he had including a cursed ring

  • once returned to the house, Loki provides the ransom, and the gods are freed. Loki then points out the cursed ring and they walk into spring.

The Valkyrie

Summary

  • Odin chooses normally who wins but Agnar who stole a swan-feathered dress of Brynhild demanded her to be his battle-maiden. Brynhild defends Agnar rather than King Helmgunnar.

  • Brynhild is turned into a mortal woman for refusing Odin. She is banished from Asguard.

  • she gets mad over this for she thinks Aegnar could make a good soldier

  • Odin wishes her a request to marry anyone, to be the bravest man

  • she’s put in a ring of fire

Sigurd’s Youth

Summary

  • Alv and his father had fought a battle and went into the woods to find survivors. They find two women: a serving maid lookalike, and a woman wearing royalty clothing

  • they promise to protect the women for where they’re taken to the treasure

  • mother of Alv noticed the two women were pretending to be each other for the purpose to stay.

  • queen chooses to marry Sigmind over Lygni causing a battle in which Sigmind lost

  • the treasure of Gram was told to be hidden until Sigurd were to be of warrior age

  • Reign teaches Sigurd how to blacksmith

  • the two get mad and Sigurd finds a house where a random stranger tells him to drive the nerd into the River.

The Sword Gram and The Dragon Fafnir

Summary

  • Sigurd’s mom sees the blue flames in his eyes

  • he goes to Reign’s workshop and sees a dragon in the corner. Reign tells Sigurd to kill Fafnir and doesn’t tell him they’re brothers.

  • if Fafnir dies, a big selection of gold and jewels would be the slayer’s
