Module mark is the best of three of the four discussion grades

humour as a scientific discipline - biological and evolutionary bases - social aspects - mating - health - negative humour - applications

Assessment - Observation report (pair work) 2000 words 50%, Essay 2500 50%

Semester 2:

21st century self

Looks at social injustice - critical and constructionist psychology - quite philosophical

Looks at how power operates as a system

4 contact hours a week - problem based learning - given tasks with no single solution - some group work but very supported

Every student last year got 1st class in their group works

Then do an independent investigation on anything but looking at the power relations

Psychology of ageing: older adults - Alexander Taylor

First year running - capped module

Core areas - Biology, Social and Health

Starts at healthy ageing not just degenerative ageing

Themes - what is ageing?, environmental interaction, purpose in life, civic participation, degenerative ageing

Assessment - design an intervention, get feedback from ‘community stakeholders’ - refine intervention - 15 min pre-recorded group presentation. Also self-reflective essay

One lecture a week - front loaded with seminars

Child language: development and assessment

Models of lexical acquisition - theory and research

Language disorders including autism

Verbal IQ scoring

Matching groups in child language research

Ethics and Research methods

Some content that would normally be saved for post grad is provided
