  • Tuckman: 5 sequential stages—Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, Adjourning.

Forming

  • Team just created; members learn names & roles.
  • Low conflict, limited communication.
  • Leadership: Directing (set scope, goals).

Storming

  • Emerging disagreements on ideas & methods.
  • Highest conflict period.
  • Leadership: Coaching/Supporting—guide constructive debate, don’t suppress it.

Norming

  • Consensus on processes & best practices.
  • Growing cohesion; shared commitment.
  • Leadership: Supporting/Servant—encourage, reinforce agreements.

Performing

  • Team executes work efficiently, minimal conflict.
  • Focus on delivering product/deliverables.
  • Leadership: Delegating—assign tasks, empower autonomy.

Adjourning

  • Work complete; team disbands or moves to next assignment.
  • Leadership: Close activities, reassign resources.

Adaptive Leadership Summary
