Elements Compounds and Mixtures
Element- A pure substance, it’s not a mixture.
Mixtures are made with two or more substances that are not chemically combined.
Compounds are made with two or more substances that are chemically combined
Filtration- Separate an insoluble solid from a liquid.
Evaporation- Separates soluble solids from it’s solution (liquid) to make crystals.
Simple Distillation-Separates liquid from a solution with different boiling temperatures. (e.g salt and water)
Fractional Distillation- Separates liquid with different boiling points.
Paper Chromatography- Chromatography can be used to separate mixtures of coloured compounds. (e.g inks).
Chemical Change | Physical Change | |
---|---|---|
Easy to reverse? | Irreversible | Reversible |
Substances | New substances are formed | No new substances |
Energy Change? | Either exothermic or endothermic | No |
Colour Change? | can result in change of colour | No |
Change of state? | can have a change of state | Usaully change of sate |
