Feline Cardiomyopathy

HCM - thickened heart muscle without pressure overload

Restrictive -

Gene mutations involved in sarcomeres can cause disease of cardiac muscle

Erratically formed myofibrils then ventricular wall becomes prog more thick → chamber gets smaller and smaller and chamber can’t fill up with enough blood → poor

Looking for abnormal sarcomeres and fibrosis

Why have murmur if not involved in valves?
Murmur is just turbulent BF

Most of the time hear it, sometimes won’t and instead hear galloping rhythm or arrhythmia

Predisp in purereeds, sphinx, norwegian forest c ats, maine coone, british shorthairs

LV wall very thick also intervent septum

  • thick lv wall pushes on valve and slightly distorts it that why mururs is heard
