BOOK REVIEW

  • It describes and evaluates a work of fiction or nonfiction and offers the book’s overall purpose, structure, and style of narration.

  • It is a sneak peek at a book, not a summary.


GUIDELINES IN CREATING A BOOK REVIEW

  • Read the book carefully to get its main concept.​

  • Relate the content of the book to what you already know about the topic. ​

  • Your analysis should be anchored on the theories presented by the book writer.​

  • Pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of the book and identify different perspectives.​

  • Show your reactions to the writer’s idea and present an explanation​


LITERATURE REVIEW

  • A type of academic essay that examines what has already been written about a topic.

  • It critically analyzes the relationship among the scholarly works and the current works.


WRITING STRATEGIES

  • Summary

    • State briefly the argument and main points of relevant research.

  • Analysis

    • Examine closely the elements or structure of the research

  • Synthesis

    • Combine ideas to form an integrated theory or system through critical evaluation, compare/contrast, etc.

  • Evaluation

    • Assess the research based on the criteria or rubric that you choose, state, and explain.

    • Support it with another similar research.


  • The text is being suggested through the text’s details, which serve as a clue to get the right meaning of the text.

  • It needs analysis or deep thinking.


POSITION PAPER

  • A composition that highlights an opinion of an author or specific entity about an issue.

  • It contains factual arguments to support the one-sided claim or position statement, as well as its weaknesses.


PROJECT PROPOSAL

  • A document that is written for problem solving, service provision, event planning, or equipment selling.

  • A way of generating income for companies or seeking funding for projects.


A good project proposal specifies the following:

  • Goals   and objectives that the project wants to accomplish;​

  • Project plan that details how the set goals and objectives will be accomplished;​

  • Financial, human, and technical resources useful in implementing the project; and​

  • Budget that specifies how much money is needed and for what purpose it will be spent.​
