AP world (geography)
Introduction to geography for AP world history
The world regions consist of The Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
The subregions of each of these being:
The Americas: North and South America. Mexico and Mesoamerica + the Caribbean are also here. Latin America comprises almost all regions south of the United States and Canada.
Geographic regions are rarely comprised of neat boundaries. Regions overlap, exclude specific areas, change over time, or are just different depending on who is describing them. These three countries (Belize, Guyana, and Suriname) are linguistically excluded from the term "Latin America."
Africa and the Middle East: North, West, South, East, and Central Africa. Also the Middle East. The region of the Middle East includes Egypt.
Asia: Central, East, South, and Southeast Asia. East Asia is China, Korea and Japan. South Asia is India. Southeast Asia is the areas south of China and east of India. Central Asia: many borders blend.
The major oceans: Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian.
The Indian ocean basin: This consists of East Africa, the Swahili coast, the Arabian peninsula, India, China, and the “Spice Islands”.
Atlantic Creole: The transatlantic settlement of the Americas via Europe and Africa created what is known as Atlantic Creole. This term is defined by the blending of African and European cultures and languages and is rooted in geography. (Creole culture spreads to the Americas. Portuguese in Africa 1500s)
