Pleiades The companions of Artemis were seven sisters called the Pleiades. These ladies were less successful at retaining their virginity than their leader, and almost all had relationships with other gods

- some less willingly than others. Maia, the eldest Pleiad, was mother to Hermes, while Electra, meaning 'bright', is still very much about on earth as she shares her name with amber ('electron' in Greek), which the ancients used to generate sparks of electricity.
