States of Matter
Matter
Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. The molecules in matter are moving all the time but in different ways. There are 3 states of matter.
Solid
A solid is any object that has a definite shape and volume. The molecules are packed tightly together, making them vibrate and be stuck in place. Solids have very little thermal energy.
Liquid
A liquid is any object that has an indefinite shape and a definite volume. The molecules in a liquid are close together and flow over each other. A liquid has more thermal energy.
Gas
A gas is any object that has an indefinite shape and volume. The molecules in a gas are very far apart and move very fast in random locations. A gas has the most thermal energy.
