Vocabulary/Terms

  1. Salvation history – The story of God’s saving action in human history.

  2. Messiah/Christ – “Anointed one”; Jesus is the fulfillment of this role.

  3. Sacrifice – Offering something valuable to God; in the OT, often animals; fulfilled in Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross.

  4. Ten Commandments (Decalogue) – The moral law given by God to Moses on Mt. Sinai.

  5. Promised Land – Canaan, the land promised to Abraham’s descendants.

  6. Typology – Study of how OT events, persons, or institutions foreshadow NT realities.

  7. Prophets – God’s messengers who called Israel to faithfulness and foretold the Messiah.

  8. “Full of Grace” – The angel Gabriel’s greeting to Mary (Luke 1:28), showing her sinlessness.

  9. Theotokos – “God-bearer” or “Mother of God,” title of Mary.

  10. Incarnation – The Son of God taking on human nature in Jesus Christ.

  11. Compassion – Genuine love, mercy, and empathy; Christ’s heart toward the suffering.

  12. Gentiles – Non-Jews; God’s plan of salvation extends to them through Christ.

  13. Theosis – “Divinization”; sharing in God’s divine life through grace.

  14. “Fullness of time” – The perfect moment in history when God sent His Son (Gal 4:4).

Limitation on Noah eating meat? – Could not eat meat with blood (Genesis 9:4)

Sign of the covenant with Noah? – The rainbow.

Promises to Abraham? – (1) Land, (2) Descendants, (3) Blessing to all nations.

Fulfillment of Abraham’s promises? – (1) Israel receives the Promised Land, (2) Israel becomes a great nation, (3) Christ brings salvation to all nations.

Sign of the covenant with Abraham? – Circumcision.
