Physical abuse: Inflicting physical harm or injury on a child or young person.

Emotional abuse: Consistently subjecting a child or young person to emotional mistreatment.

Signs: Low self-esteem, Withdrawal from social activities, Aggressive behaviour, Development delays

 

Sexual abuse: Forcing or coercing a child into sexual activities

Signs: inappropriate sexual knowledge or behaviour, Witnessing violence or aggressive behaviour, Behavioural changes in the child, such a fear or withdrawal

 

Bullying and cyber bullying: Repeated aggressive behaviour intended to hurt or control another person

Signs: Changes in behaviour (withdrawal, reluctance to attend school), Changes in behaviour (withdrawal, aggression), Unexplained gifts or money

 

Neglect: Persistently failing to meet a childs basic needs

Signs: Poor hygiene, Malnutrition, Lack of medical care, Frequent absenteeism from school

 

Domestic violence: Violent behaviour within a family or relationship.
