1. Independent clause (n):   also known as the main clause, a part of a sentence that can form a complete sentence standing alone
Ex. Ann received detention because she was late. 

2. Subordinate clause (n): a clause, typically introduced by a conjunction, that forms part of and is dependent on a main clause 

Ex. Ann received detention because she was late.

3. loose sentence (n): a sentence in which the main clause comes first, before any dep. clauses

ex. Ann received detention because she was late.

4. periodic sentence (n):  a sentence in which the main clause comes at the end, after any dep. clauses. 

Ex. Because she was late, Ann received detention. 

5. declarative sentence (n):  a sentence that makes a statement and ends with a period

 ex. Ann received detention because she was late.

6. imperative sentence (n): a sentence in the form of a command  

ex. Please sit down.

7. interrogative sentence (n):  a sentence that asks a question and ends with a question mark 

ex. Why was Ann late? 

8. Constitute (v):  to be part of or comprise a whole; to be or be equivalent to (something)

9. Justify (v): show or prove to be right or reasonable

10. Sufficient (adj):  enough, adequate

11. Resolution (n):  a firm decision to do or not to do something; the quality of being determined;  

the action of solving a problem, dispute, or contentious matter

12. Compensation (n):  something, typically money, awarded to someone for loss, injury, or suffering

13. Causal (adj): relating to or acting as a cause (NOT CASUAL)

14. Advocate (v, n):  to publicly recommend or support; a person who publicly supports a cause or policy, etc.
