Psalm 144

War and Peace

1. Praising God

   1. Blessed be our Lord who prepares us for trials

   2. He is our strength, our rock, our goodness, our fortress, our high tower, our shield, and our deliverer

   3. He subdues the people against and under us

   4. Why would the Lord even take interest in us humans? What are we to be so special?

   5. David promises to sing new songs of praise to the Lord

   6. He is the one who delivers kings to salvation

2. Asking for Rescue

   1. David asks the Lord to come down by bowing the heavens

   2. To make the mountains smoke with his touch

   3. To cast lightning to scatter his enemies

   4. And shoot arrows to destroy them

   5. To send down his hand and lift him out of the treacherous waters of strange people

      1. Who are a sinful bunch

   6. Save him so that his children may be as plants and cornerstones in the community

   7. That their barns may be full and abundant with crops

   8. That their flocks and herds may be plentiful in the streets

   9. So their cattle be strong and resilient

   10. And the people happy as they have placed their Lord on high
