CH 1: Intro to Physical Fitness
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The process of teaching motor skills and other concomitant knowledge which will enable the students to participate at the very least in an exercise, game, sports, and other recreational activities.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The vital and integral part of general education designed to promote the optimum development of the individual physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally through total body movement in the performance of properly selected physical activities
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: any bodily movement produced by the contraction of the skeletal muscles that increases energy expenditure above the baseline level.
EXERCISE: is defined as planned, structured, recurrent activities designed to better or retain one or more components of physical fitness.
CALISTHENICS: exercise without the use of any apparatus.
FITNESS*:* Good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition.
FITNESS: One's capacity to perform work or exercise of a specific intensity and duration; may be aerobic, anaerobic or muscular.
HEALTH: A condition of human well-being which extensively influences behavior.
-is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
HEALTH: As defined by (WHO) The ideal state of complete, physical, psychological and social well-being.
WELLNESS: The condition of good health components (physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual), especially when maintained by proper diet, exercise, and habits.
Article 14, section 19, 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines
“The state shall promote Physical Education and encourage sports programs*,* league competitions, and amateur sports including training for an international competition to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry. All educational institutions shall undertake regular sports activities throughout the country and in cooperation with athletic clubs and other sectors.”
Furthermore, Republic Act No. 5708, known as The Schools Physical Education and Sports Development Act of 1969 provided for:
"An integrated physical education and sports development program in all schools in the Philippines (Section 2)... the goal is to instill in young citizens a proper appreciation of the importance of physical development *hand in hand with the mental development in individual and social activities (1) and the provision for "*a well-rounded physical education program must be addressed to physical growth, social training, and personal discipline for all pupils and students as well as superior athletic achievement for those who are psychologically inclined and physically gifted (2)."
