Joining the Conversation Lecture

• Dinner party - analog/guiding metaphor

• List 3 things that bug you about AUM or need improvement.

• TOPIC:

  • The library needs more hours, ideally 24 hours

  • Rhetorical situation: you must report on a problem that matters to students and write it for the Aumnibus.

• Makayla Yelder, a second-year student at AUM who lives on campus

• “Students need more time to study for midterms and finals. They need more quiet time. They need more access to computers and printers.”

• Samantha Olvera, a sophomore student at AUM who spends at least 5-6 hours in the library during weekdays, says that she would use more hours “after the gym to find a quiet little study space or after work at 8:30 pm because I can’t study at home due to family.”

• This column addresses student problems on campus and asks them for solutions. One topic students have spoken to us about is their use of the library. They have told us that they want the library to be open for more hours. Makayla Yelder, a second-year student at AUM who lives on campus, said, “Students need more time to study for midterms and finals. They need more quiet time. They need more access to computers and printers. Likewise, Samantha Olvera, a sophomore student at AUM who spends at least 5-6 hours in the library during weekdays, says that she would use more hours “after the gym to find a quiet little study space or after work at 8:30 pm because I can’t study at home due to family.” Personally, I think the library should be more open more hours so that students have access to databases and tutoring and form study groups. According to my research, the general consensus at AUM is in favor of extending library hours. If you want to weigh in, email X at X.
