Attitude formation- Classical conditioning

Classical conditioning

repeated association of two different stimuli

  • learning is passive

  • response is involuntary/reflective.

Three phases

Before:
Object that elicits no particular response is called Neutral stimulus (NS)

Unconditioned stimulus (UCS) is and object that elicits a unlearnt response (Involuntary reaction, you have to link the sense eg/ sight of white rat, sound of white noise)

During conditioning:
Neutral stimulus (NS) is repeatedly paired with unconditioned stimulus to produce unconditioned response.

  • unconditioned stimuli’s is still causing reaction rather than neutral

After conditioning:
Neutral stimulus (NS) becomes conditioned stimulus. Conditioned stimulus (CS) elicits a conditioned response (CR) without presence of unconditioned stimulus (UCS).
