Desktop computer - usually refers to a general-purpose computer that is made up of separate monitor, keyboard, mouse and processor unit.

Laptop Computer - refers to a type of computer where the monitor, keyboard, pointing device, and processor together in one unit. lightweight, low power consumption, low heat output

Smartphones/Tablets -Smartphones allow normal phone calls to be made, but also have an operating system (such as iOS, Android or Windows) allowing them to run a number of computer applications (known as apps or applets). high-def, anti-glare displays.

Advantage and disadvantage of desktop computers - A. 1. internet access and data transfer rate is more stable because not moving around. also less likely to get damaged
2. power consumption is not critical because plugged directly into wall socket
D. 1. not portable so have to copy files if you want to do work somewhere else
2. tend to be more complicated and cluttered due to all the components (keyboard mouse wires etc.) so hard to transport

Advantages and disadvantage of laptop computers - A. portable since monitor, keyboard, pointing device, and processor is in one single unit therefore no clutter
2. they can take full advantage of wi-fi and since takes less room can be taken anywhere
D. 1. Since easily portable easier to steal or beak
2. limited battery life and not possible to upgrade eg. adding more RAM

advantages and disadvantages of tablet computers/smart phone - A. Very small in size and lightweight so easy to carry and have on your person at all times (not possible w/ laptops because they are bulier and heavier)
2. very fast to switch on no delay waiting for OS and not much head due to solid state technology
D. 1. they have more limited memory or storage compared to laptop
2. don’t support more file format compared to laptops and not quipped to run different types of software

Compare the use of smartphones to access the internet with the use of desktop computers. - Similarities: Both use wifi to access internet. both can access internet with hotstop
Differences: Desktop: More websites work with desktop due to clearer layout, can connect to internet via ethernet cable
Smartphones: access to internet from more locations due to mobile data/4G/3G, screen and keyboard built in so easier to access websites
